The park, which includes the former Canadian State Forest and plantation land, is currently called Canadian Regional Park. It lies within the traditional lands of the Wadawurrung people. Wadawurrung have nominated ‘Woowookarung’ as the preferred name of the new park, meaning ‘place of plenty’. A Wadawurrung name reflects the traditional use and connection that Wadawurrung people have with the area.
The proposal relates only to the Canadian Regional Park and does not impact on any private addresses or the suburb name, Canadian.
