Vale Uncle David Tournier
Reconciliation Victoria acknowledges the passing of Aboriginal Elder Uncle David Tournier, and remembers him for his contributions to the Geelong community.
A highly-respected staff member and Elder of the Wathaurong Cooperative, where he was known as Tandop (uncle) Dave, he was also a well-known leader across the Geelong region, with his moving storytelling, traditional ceremonies, language and Aboriginal cultural heritage expertise. He will be sadly missed.
Uncle Dave was of Narrindjerri, Yorta Yorta and Wathaurong Country, spending a significant part of his life on Wathaurong Country. Uncle Dave was a true champion of reconciliation, a great friend, supporter and advisor to the Geelong One Fire Reconciliation Group, and a key driver behind the annual 'Reconciliation in the Park' event.
RecVic extends our sympathies to Uncle Dave’s family, friends and the Aboriginal community.
The flags at Geelong's City Hall will be lowered on Monday as a mark of respect during sorry business, until next Thursday.
